Alfie Carpenter
Artist statement
Alfie Carpenter creates as a form of therapy, in particular the idea of collage
which, for him, is all about bringing a variety of things together to make
something new and to develop understanding.
Whether the components are shapes, colours and textures or pitches, words and
voices, he is fascinated by assembling them in different and diverse ways in
order to give life to a particular landscape, vision, idea or emotion.
Born in 1989 and raised in rural Suffolk, Alfie grew up juggling two of his
first loves: music and art. At 19, he moved to Leeds, West Yorkshire to
complete a music degree at Leeds College of Music, specialising in singing and
composition. Now based back in Suffolk, his focus is on writing and performing
music as well as creating mixed media landscape art with a combination of plein
air and studio work.
