Water has always informed the way Roberta thinks: She grew up with it and still spends most of her spare time in, on, or next to the sea, so it's no surprise that her work is strongly influenced in this way.

As a designer/maker Roberta utilises kiln-forming and hot glass techniques to create unique work that often explores perspectives around our relationship with the environment.

Glass is the cornerstone of Roberta’s practice and it is the properties of glass itself - flow, transparency, opacity and reactivity - that make it the perfect material for her work. She is also interested in the intersection of glass with other materials to drive narrative and she is constantly inspired by this quote from Aristotle: “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.”

Roberta says that studying for an MA in Ceramics and Glass at Royal College of Art, London is both challenging and deepening her understanding of her relationship with water, and the work that she’s exploring is based on immersion and bubbles as a kind of language.

Memberships include the Contemporary Glass Society, the Scottish Glass Society, as well as a juried membership to Handmade in Britain and a Selected Maker for Craft & Design Magazine.
